One thing I don't get about this post is what does Russell Simmons have to do with hip-hop?

Well, Simmons has lots to do with mainstream, money-makin' hip-hop.

And I think the issue is not "what words are you not allowed to say?"
but "What words are you not aloud to say if you expect to keep getting paid for talking." Any employer has a right to fire you for saying the wrong things. Anybody who sells things has a right to control the product they produce. Imus has a right to say anything he wants, but nobody has a "right" to get paid to say whatever they want.
You only get paid if people like what you say enough to buy it.
If not enough people like what you say, you won't get paid to say it.
What's so crazy about that?

Its unreasonable to censor words, while not censoring concepts.

Yes Adam, this isn't a violation of someones God given right to curse. Rap music (music in general...art in general?) is partially rebellion. Making rules about what words you can say in a rebellious form of music is an indicator of what is happening in society as a whole.

What is so crazy about that? When a rebellious art form begins to censor specific words I think it indicates that society as a whole is more concerned with words and images rather then concepts and ideas. Thats crazy.
